Linux is poised to take the world by storm. Any day now everybody will be switching to Linux. All it needs is that last little feature or killer app to hit critical mass.

If you have work to do while you wait for this revolution to happen, sorry, you’re out of luck. However, you can spin the Compiz cube to keep yourself entertained.

Shame it’s true _

@Hoppi, you realize this is a promise that never happens right? We’ve been promised that Linux will take over the world, yet nothing has happened.

What gives Hoppi? Why are you just sitting there rather than contributing?

I remember Linux was going to be OnTheDesktop in 1999. Didn’t happen. Won’t happen.

It’s come along a long way since 1999 though, and so has technology and the internet. I think to say it can and will never happen just because it hasn’t in the past is very illogical.

@Hoppi

Yeah, Linux has come a long way. Today’s distros are much easier to install and installing 3rd-party apps are much easier thanks to package managers.

That still doesn’t make Linux ready for mass-adoption. No matter how easy it is to install, if it’s not useful enough, folks won’t wanna keep it. Linux still has major issues with standardization, bugginess and hardware detection; all the very same faults they level against Windows.

It’s not illogical at all to say that because something didn’t occur in the past that it won’t occur in the future. In fact, that’s part of the scientific process. By your logic, just because we haven’t observed Xenu in the past, doesn’t mean we won’t observe Xenu in the future, amirite?

I said it before and I’ll say it again: Linux will only truly be great once its fans and developers stop pretending it already is. The way the Linux world is going right now, it’s not happening. The community is so obsessed about bashing Microsoft and adding useless eyecandy to Linux desktops that the most fundamental of issues never get prioritized.

@Hoppi

BTW, that in itself is an example of hypocrisy in the Linux crowd. They want everybody to acknowledge how Linux has addressed its initial issues (better hardware support, easier installation) but refuse to acknowledge that Windows too has addressed its initial issues (stability, security).
